Evaluation of School Magazine

Evaluation of my own school magazine:

This is my own interpretation of how I would make a school magazine. In the top left you can see the magazines name “Scool” this is a play on words combining both school and the word cool this help interest my target audience. Throughout the front cover I have used a type of writing with a chalkboard/hand written effect to link in with the purpose of my magazine.  I have used black writing, as this is mainly what pupil and the teachers would write in. The only exception for this is at the very bottom of the page where my freebee is, I decided to do this a vibrant purple, as most of the image and writing are quite dark. This is also beneficial as the readers eye will automatically see this and want to have a chance at winning this week’s competition.  The masthead: “Mr.Russle unleashed” is having a negative effect on my magazine but I think that this is not a bad thing as people will be interested to read on and see what he is trying to say in his article. The main picture is of the head teacher, as everyone clearly know who he is including all staff, parent and most importantly the pupils they will want to know what message he is trying to get across. Just under the magazines name you can see that there is a picture in the shape of a star. And above this picture is a headline saying, “prefects picked” the star helps the emphasise on that fact that the prefects are something special, to be proud of and that this is a important thing in me magazine.

The colour influences the target audience to want to read the magazine as it is brightly coloured to attracts the readers. The school logo is in the centre so you can clearly tell where and what the magazine is about. The typography is plain but it is in capitals and in comparison to the multi-coloured background and the motif. The motif adds a difference and as it is in black contrasts with the background colour.

The magazine does not comply with the traditional conventions of a magazine as the title is not in capitals. It is also in black font eye catching however the headline does comply with these conventions. The main subject head overlaps the title which is most common with most magazines. The subheadings are in bright colours which catch the target audience. The school logo is in the top right so you can see who it is for. The date is under the masthead. There is no page numbers underneath the subheadings. Both the people in the picture are not looking at the audience.

There is a matching colour pattern throughout the front cover. The text that they have used for the masthead is original and has become a logo for the magazine. The have changed the opacity of the text boxes so you can see the full name of the school. The school badge is in the hotspot.
